We meter to get a correct exposure, meaning incident towards the lightsource in most cases, if you want to chance that... no problem but at least the basis is correct.

The way you describe metering is actually not really what the meter is intended for, it's... well I don't know I would just skip the meter in that case and shoot :D

I don't mean to offend you in any way by the way, it's just that the meter will give you a starting point that's "perfect" if you use it correctly. The way you describe metering is just pointing it somewhere and work from there, that's more a creative process. NOW... if you repeat the same process over and over again to get the same look... well that's what the meter is for :D

Re: It’s all about expression

Downloading it now :)

Re: Forum

Hi
There seems to be so many ways of doing metering you can get total headwarp lol
I used to spot meter everything.Col neg. +2ev on skin, or -1ev for my darks (i like overexposure) Slide I meter my darkest and lightest points, make a judgment, filter for highlights.
But now Im trying this...for portraits...For backlight shots; I meter with bulb in, pointing meter towards camera, and depending if i want to overexpose a lot i point the meter towards the floor (unless there is some very bright light source below which could throw out the meter)
If in flat light, i'll do the same but push it more, by adding +ev or rating the film lower.
what you think?

Re: Adding pets

Yep I agree. Every frame a pet wil show you different expressions. Thats why I love pet photography so mush!
Working with pets usually take more time then humans. Especially if you are into snakes, ferrets, frogs, spiders etc...

Re: Calibrating the Light meter, some quick notes

I'm sorry to ask, but in your tutorial, you mentioned "With Sekonic you can do this by pressing the two ISO buttons and you can set the offset.", If you do this on an L-358, you will enter "Exposure Compensation", which shown as "ADJ" on the display.

in the manual, the exposure compensation setting is "Exposure compensation can be made in precise 1/10 step increments in a +/- 9.9 EV range. Exposure compensation may be desired when requiring compensation for filters, bellows extension, etc."

To enter Calibration Compensation in L-358, you will need to turn off the meter first. When it's off, hold the 2 ISO buttons, while pressing the Power button. It will then show "CAL" on the display, which means calibrating. So now, which one should we select?ADJ or CAL?

Re: Review Vello wireless shutterboss

I have the Pixel version for a 10-pin Nikon. The receiver is tiny, and I use one of those elastic hair ties through the strap lug on my D800. Just feed the tie through the lug and loop it, then stick the receiver in that.

Another thing I tried was to put a cold shoe adapter on the receiver, then stick velcro to the back of the adapter. This let me put the receiver on the grip of my tripod head, which is more secure, but gets in the way of using the trigger grip.

Both of these options leave the hot shoe available. I use this setup with radio triggers (my current profile pic was shot this way).

Re: Some images from Loes

love the soften color on the petri, was it original or created in PS/Lightroom ? Probably the largest organization of this sort, highly international, organizes the main conference in the topic ...

I really think this is a point that NAPP could do on behalf of its members.

To put the topic on numbers, on the european prices you would have paid photoshop CS6 with about 36 months of CC subscription. If you think on upgrading to CS"next" every time a new version would come, it would be more or less equivalent on price. But if you don't go on that direction then, as you said, you're left with nothing. I know a bunch of people that still work on CS4 or CS5 (you can see that in the photoshop user magazine section where they renew a given brand).

Re: Mini review Petri 50mm 1.7

Thanks, I always try to do different stuff :D

Re: Mini review Petri 50mm 1.7

It's probably the look from DxO :D
